Visitor's Book

Like many gîtes, we maintain a visitor's book at 'La Fontaine', where we invite all visitors (family as well as paying guests) to leave their opinions, views and messages. Unlike some properties, though, we publish all of the remarks on our web site. We don't quote or paraphrase or censor - it's all there. If you don't believe us, you'll have to come and check for yourself!

Free Books!

We operate an Official BookCrossing Zone at La Fontaine, whereby books are made available to guests who are encouraged to take them away and "release them into the wild". Released books are then tracked around the world on the BookCrossing web site. Click here to view our bookshelf, or to report a found book.
We also encourage our visitors to share photos of their holiday on this web site. A link is displayed against each participant which will take you to their photo gallery, or click here to go to the visitor gallery main page.

Had a great time. Great places to visit especially the Cathars. Nice to have a peaceful home to come to after a long day of outings.
Karen & Les, from Brittany (Christmas 2007)
In festive mood! The gîte was warm and welcoming with a decorated tree and a blazing log fire. Snow at Monts d'Olmes and fun there on New Year's Eve (and also on Boxing Day). Good food, good wine and family togetherness. Many thanks.
Anna, Dominic, Thomas, Isabella and Venetia, from Milan (September 2007)
We had a lovely week, the girls loved having chickens in front of us and also the sheep and Passe-Partout, etc. We managed to see a lot of castles: Montségur and Peyrepeteuse excellent also Lagarde. Market at Mirepoix good.
Wrights & Garritys, from Leicester (July 2007)
Great holiday, thanks for fitting us all in!
'Velomondo' bike riding a must.
Friday night market in Leran brilliant.
Mandy, Filip, Emily, Steven, Tina, Luca & Max, from South west London (July 2007)
Lovely stay. Jacqueline & Oliver, thanks for all your baby equipment and advice.
Knight tournament in Carcassonne was fantastic.
The kids really enjoyed the pony ride, tree house, swing and plunge pool.
Both lakes were worth visiting.
Sarah, Rob, Freya & Lucas from Northamptonshire with Dorsta, Matt, Maks & Kasia, from Purley (June 2007)
Had a lovely stay. J & O have been great hosts.
Puivert lake was a big hit with the kids and the restaurant there was the best of the holiday with Agghan food!
Fantastic stay, kids loved it, especially the animals & pony ride.
Thank you X
Blinding barbeque ... [at this point the pen ran out!]

Brilliant week! Had a lovely time. Kids had a great time in ski-school. Good value for money. Had a lovely meal at Troye d'Ariège - different surroundings but excellent food. Hope to come again sometime soon.
p.s. Thanks for the babysitting, much appreciated by all!!!
Debbie, Perry, Joel & Gideon from Nottingham (February 2007)
Another great week. Visited Foix this time - v. pretty and some lovely shops!! Had a fab time skiing once again despite distinct lack of snow on some runs. See you next February :-)
Rob, Michelle, George & Evie, from Cheshire (October 2006)
October half-term, weather fab > 20°C every day. Gîte is great, all mod cons and a great location to explore the entire region. Mirepoix market on a Monday is a must, also the walk up Montségur is fantastic with views across to the Pyrenees. We had a wonderful lunch at "Les Sapins" which is on the road to Nalzen, arguably the best lunch we've ever had at 14€ a head!
Oliver & Jacqueline are great hosts, very welcoming and always on hand with local knowledge.
Many thanks for having us!
Jill & Roy, John & Vron, from Kent and Sussex (September 2006)
We booked hot weather which was waiting for us when we arrived, but sadly only lasted 3 days!
Gîte fabulous. Beds exceptionally comfortable. Chickens and cockerels great fun. We would like to take the cat, Bandit, home with us.
Oliver & Jacqueline were great hosts and we had a couple of lovely sociable musical drinking evenings with them.
Super area to visit - lots to do and see. Mirepoix market excellent (and Café Commerce - really lovely meal). Foix market on Fridays also good. Le Rendez-Vous at Montferrier also great for lunch - 4 courses including wine, coffee and huge cheeseboard for 13€. Montségur and Roquefixade well worth a visit. Too much to see for one week so we will definitely be back!
Many, many thanks.
Dilnots & Fitzjames, from London and Warkickshire (August 2006)
A wonderful holiday with highlights for all ages/sizes! Toddler loved swimming, and tending chickens! Ten year-old learned to jump into a lake, tend quails and ride Merens horses, and twelve year-old mastered diving, egg collection, fly swatting and a game called Uno. Liked Mirepoix market, Puivert village, Castle walks. We did our swimming at Puivert (further from Montbel and post-July much much nicer). Cathar castles fab. Puilaurens and Roquefixade great! Montsegur a bit less so. Carcassonne great day out especially the jousting and castle walls. Loved canoeing down the Ariège - well worth it with youngsters, but older male of group (i.e. moi!) would have liked a bit more white water and rougher rapids. Rafting the Aude looked good (not for under 10s) and only lasts an hour and a bit, but another time.
Hosts are kind and generous to a fault; have done a great job on the gîte, and deserve every success with it. We shall tell friends and come again ourselves. A really great holiday.
p.s. Didn't mind morning cock crows, as tiny daughter cuddled her Dad in the dark of her room, heard "cockadoodledoo" and whispered "Chicken says good morning Daddy!", as adult suppressed convulsion of giggles.
Weather: abundance of sun and clear blue sky (one afternoon of heavy rain / odd cloudy day or two only).
Duncan, Georgina, Lisa, Don, Elizabeth, Seraphina & Kemi, from London (August 2006)
We had a great time at La Fontaine. We visited the Mirepoix market and swam at Lac Montbel and hired a pedal boat. Enjoyed riding the horses at home and at the place by the lake. Also, visiting Andorra was a great experience seeing all the sights/views. Cycling round the lake with bike hired bikes was fun as well.
Lisa, age 10
First I want to thank you for the lovely place that I stayed at and thank you for letting us stay here. I'll miss you once again thank you. By the way, we had to put up with "Knock knock" "who's there" "boo" "boo who" "arr don't cry"!
Seraphina, age 9
A very relaxing holiday, thank you. A special thanks to Oliver for rescuing our barbecue from adverse weather conditions!
Melbray Bikers, from Melton Mowbray (August 2006)
Gîte excellent, hosts cannot be faulted!
Mirepoix beautiful, Carcassonne a must see, Millau bridge good but 180 miles away. Andorra a good day out with cheap shopping. Lake at Montbel a little stoney. One member was not very happy about early cockerel crowing. Light sleepers should take bedroom at rear of gîte. Beach at Valras-Plage near Beziers superb! Also of note no drinking place within walking distance.
We have been very happy here.

Super gite, fantastic region, wonderful hosts! The lake at Puivert was ideal for our 3 small children, very warm and shallow. The children enjoyed feeding the animals and riding the pony. Mirepoix is very busy on market day so leave early to find a parking space. An altogether happy, relaxing holiday that we will be recommending to others. Thanks.
Jen, Neil, Adam, Matt & Katie, from Elgin in Scotland (July 2006)
Lots of thoughtful extras made this a great place to stay. Very good location too for sightseeing. Thanks for your hospitality.
Our favourites were:
  • a meal (alone, bliss!) at l'Ecole Buissonière - very French, quirky and lovely food.
  • Go-karting (boys, big & small, loved it).
  • Visiting Foix, castle & streets & market on Friday.
  • Market Mondays in Mirepoix.
  • Cable car / spa at Ax-les-Thermes - gorgeous scenery.
  • Seeing the Tour de France!
The Grays, from Wendover and Whitehaven (May 2006)
Went to Roquefort-les-Cascades yesterday (29th). It must be amazing when it it's anywhere close to being in spate, though in the wet the paths higher up could be very slippy. Lots of little paths leading off to views of falls or pools, exciting fun for the kids, and for the adults away from the kids!
Fi, Chris, Ben, Nat & Mimi, from Nottingham (February 2006)
Friendly hosts, well appointed gîte and decent amount of snow made for a great week skiing. Thanks you for organising ski hire & tuition for the children, they all achieved some stars and had a great time.
Nancy, Jeff, Ben, Harry & Joe, from Blakeny (February 2006)

It was a privilege to be here for Sofia's baptism. Thank you for everything, especially the warm welcome at the gîte. We enjoyed the visit to Mirepoix, the walk through the woods, the Service at Queille & the reception afterwards, also meeting the family again. Merci mille fois!
Thank you for making us so comfortable during our visit for Sofia's baptism. We trust you and your children will enjoy many years in this lovely community.
Wonderful visit - Baptism & pre-Christmas. Snow & a winter wonderland at Mont d'Olmes - Mirepoix as always & superb atmosphere as always.

Warm welcome to a very comfortable gîte. Ideal location to explore the Ariège and Aude. Perpignan a good place to visit, particularly if you catch a rugby game at the same time. Favourite town square is Limoux. Enjoyed meeting the formidable menagerie headed up by Rex. Thanks to Jacqueline & Oliver for being perfect hosts.

Alice & Bruce, Vic & John, with Sam, Lily, Grace and Niamh, from Sheffield & Syndey (August 2005)
Excellent accomodation. The kids loved the pony rides and feeding the chickens.
Mirepoix market on Monday morning, excellent atmosphere & great fun.
Narbonne beach - long stretch of sand, but not much else. Very windy when we were there!
Great day at Puivert. Climbed the castle, played in the lake, swimming and pedalos. Also children play area.
Jousting spectacle at Carcassonne fantastic and wandering round the castle walls & town good fun (if busy).
Amazing walking (without the kids!)
Fanjeaux - between Mirepoix & Carcassonne - also worth a visit.
Richard, Jane, Patrick, Jade & Samantha, from Shropshire (August 2005)
What more can I say than it's like home from home, great hosts & the gîte has everything you need, I think on this evidence we will be back to this great area of France again.

Debbie, Perry, Joel & Gideon, from Nottingham (August 2005)
Thanks for a great, very relaxing week! Too much to see, so we'll have to come back. Auberge de Balestié has great food, English host, very reasonable. Mirepoix and Carcassonne are fantastic and the lake at Puivert is great. Pedalos with slides at Lake Montbel, and even the quad-biking down the road was a hit!! Great house, had everything we needed, thanks for your help and friendly welcome.

We've really enjoyed our holiday here. The surrounding area is beautiful and full of places to visit and things to do. Rennes-les-Bains, Lac Montbel, endless castles, Carcassonne is amazing, we've even had a day at the Med. La Fontaine is a great base to explore from. It is very well equipped, spacious and comfortable accommodation. Despite our late arrival we got a warm welcome.
Fantastic gîte. Oliver and Jacqueline go that extra mile to make your stay exactly what you want it to be. Will definitely be recommending La Fontaine to family and friends. Good luck with the latest arrival!
Hugh, Pauline & Richard, from Newbury (July 2005)
Great to see you all again. Richard particularly enjoyed seeing Adam and William. Great gîte, very comfortable, will recommend to friends. What an area! So much to do here, we needed much more time. Still that leaves plenty of reasons to return. Thank you.
Karen from Brittany (July 2005)
Another super holiday. There's so much I love about this place. Lucky to be here for the village fête.
Mike, Iris, Leon, Emma, Peter, Jude & Elsie, from Nottingham (May 2005)
Pleasant and very well equipped accommodation. Jacqueline & Oliver (& the boys!) are very approachable & extremely straightforward to deal with. They are very helpful and react quickly to any problem or suggestion. Altogether a very enjoyable and relaxing visit. Will definitely recommend to friends. Best wishes for the new baby girl! James, Brenda & Casper the dog, from Amsterdam (September 2004)
Wonderful gîte and family, looked after us very well. The weather was good, very sunny when we did the fantastic canoe trip!!! Cheap shopping in Andorra but recommed an early start. Overall experience 10/10. Casper also loved the outdoors, with lots of space to run, sleep and play.
Nancy & Jeff, from Blakeney (August 2004)
It's so good that my wife agreed to be a Godparent!
Rachel & Michael, from Toronto (July 2004)
Thanks for having us to stay, we had a lovely time.
Karen & Leslie (Jacqueline's parents), from Brittany (July 2004)
Karen: Lots of space & perfect for a relaxing family holiday. Very comfortable & it will be memorable in so many ways.
Leslie: Too much hard work - walking the dog, watering the horses, watering the garden, etc.
Caroline & Kevin, from Cambridge (June 2004)
Fantastic gîte! Excellently equipped. Mirepoix market is well worth a visit (Monday) and the local mountains and beaches excellent. Our children enjoyed the animals (especially feeding the chickens) and swimming in the pool. Thinking of next year already.
